FINAL APPRENTICE IN THE JIGSAW Joe Ashurst is the final apprentice coach to be profiled in the matchday magazine. All with our other apprentices, Joe started last September with Football in the Community. Joe lives in Hucknall where he firstly attended Linby Primary School before moving onto National School. Following the completion of his GCSEs, including I.T, History and P.E, Joe moved to New College Nottingham. Here he completed a BTEC 1st Diploma in Sports Science. Following this he moved to South Nottingham College, where along with the others, he is studying a Modern Apprenticeship in Sport. During his time away from Football in the Community and College, Joe plays as much football as possible. When work permits he turns out on the left wing for Hucknall Rolls Royce Leisure on a Saturday, and as he points out they are 17 points clear at the top! Joe also plays on Sundays for Spot On where he is also a keen pool player. The only downside with Joe is that he is an avid follower of Forest! Joe has settled in excellently with the scheme and says "I enjoy the challenge of working with different people especially the adult men On the Ball".  COACHES UNDERTAKE STAFF TRAINING During the second week of the recent Easter holidays all our coaching staff attended two separate training days. The sessions we both delivered in anticipation for future projects and providing new ideas for our schools work. The first training day saw the staff take part in multi skills activities. The session was delivered by a tutor from Sports Coach UK who introduced new aspects of coaching sports to children. The main emphasis of the day was focusing on work involving agility, balance and coordination. Following the theory work or staff were then asked to deliver their own sessions involving different sporting equipment. Our second training day was a course for delivering practical indoor rowing for schools. The session was delivered by staff from Concept 2. Concept 2, based in Wilford, sell indoor rowing machines, offer training and promote the sport of Indoor Rowing to all communities. They have been in operation since 1983 and currently work in schools nationwide to improve the physical activity opportunities available to children. Football in the Communinty has successfully acquired funding to deliver an Indoor Rowing programme in areas across the City.  Our coaches spent the day gaining knowledge of how to coach children the techniques of rowing, whilst some also learnt the skill themselves! Following this training day all staff now has the knowledge to deliver structured coaching sessions with the Indoor Rowing machines in both Primary and Special Schools.  PROJECT EXPANDING TO COUNTY Our Looked After Children project has been running since January. We have been working alongside the Nottingham City Council Education Support Team and in partnership with Capital One and Sportsmatch. We are now planning to expand our work with children in care with the County Council.  Activities will include afterschool football sessions aswell as coaching sessions during the school holidays. Children will also be given the opportunity to attend Notts County home games and tour Meadow Lane. DAZZLERS’ DAY AT THE LANE Providing the entertainment at half-time today are the Under-11Boys team from Littleover Dazzlers FC, this is one of the 8 boys, girls and mixed teams run by the club.  The club was formed back in 1971 providing youngsters with the opportunity to foster, from an early age, healthy competition and team spirit.  Littleover Dazzlers have been awarded the Charter Standard Development Club earlier this year as a result of the continuing work we have been doing within the club. Littleover Dazzlers run a soccer school club open to all youngsters between the age of 6 and 10 from May through to the Summer Holidays with the aim of getting more boys and girls interested in playing football. Everyone associated with Littleover Dazzlers are volunteers, and give their free time to ensure the teams and club members have a safe environment to play football and to work together.  To continue to provide these factors to our members, Littleover Dazzlers are always in need of sponsorship either for the whole club or for an individual team, more details on how to contact the club can be found at out website; www.littleoverdazzlersfc.co.uk.
